What is an "Intranet" ?
An Intranet is a private website in its simplest definition. "Private" meaning that only select individuals have access to view and use it. This restriction is usually automatic as the intranet usually resides on a private network such as a company's network that only employees have access to and not the general public. This is not to say that you couldn't have an intranet if you didn't have your own network. An intranet can also be setup using an internet host with special settings. This is something that can be discuss during the discovery phase if needed.
The purpose of having an Intranet are the benefits that it provides. Some of those benefits are:
- Increase in productivity
- Improving team synergy
- Improving internal communication
- Reduce usage of email for sharing company information.
- One source to find information about the company, department or job related topics.
In essence, an intranet will add value to your business by helping employees to be more effective and efficient.
What's On An Intranet?
Company policies and code of conduct could be on the one of the things on the intranet. This is to facilitate communication for the company and employees.
